A running update from the Paint Branch-Fallston 3A girls basketball final:

1st QT: Fallston 16, Paint Branch 12

Paint Branch senior Tarik Hislop came out firing. She hit the game’s first field goal just three seconds into the game and scored Paint Branch’s first six points. Sophomore Brene Mosely connected on her first field goal to give the defending champion Panthers a 10-4 lead.

Fallston came storming back behind freshman Rachel Holehouse, who scored her fourth point of the game. Monica Fischer hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 12 and the Cougars took a 16-12 lead into the second quarter.

2nd QT: Fallston 23, Paint Branch 22

It’s clear both teams are in for a battle. The referees are letting them play and there’s already been several huge collisions – some with calls and some without. Fallston continued its streak with a three-pointer by Holehouse to take a 19-12 lead.

Paint Branch responded with three-pointers by Hislop and Moseley and took a momentary lead on a pair of free throws by Moseley. But the Cougars ended the half with a bucket by Jess Harlee (6 points) to take a halftime lead.

3rd QT: Paint Branch 42, Fallston 35

Paint Branch’s leaders, Khaliah Quigley and Tarik Hislop started taking over. They combined for 11 straight points for the Panthers, which left them leading 35-32. Moseley finished it off with a pair of free throws but Quigley picked up her 4th foul with 1:40 left in the quarter. Fischer hit another three-pointer to pull to four behind but Moseley finished the quarter with a buzzer-beating three-pointer.

4th QT:

Fallston takes a 45-44 lead behind Harlee’s and-one. Fallston takes a four-point lead behind three free throws by Fischer.

Fallston takes a 52-46 lead with 3:10 left in the game on a bucket by Lindsay Garnett.

Make that a 56-46 lead after a spinning and-one by Harlee.

Fallston leads 58-48 with 1:28 to go and it’s Fallston’s ball. Paint Branch is struggling from the field and the Cougars are hitting everything.

Paint Branch is making a comeback behind Hislop and Moseley and just stole the ball, giving them possession with Fallston up 59-53 with 56.8 left.

Fallston up 63-56 with 22.2 left.

FALLSTON WINS 65-62 when Paint Branch’s last 3 is short.
